As technology has advanced, there have been facets of modern civilized life that have blossomed with it. Media is undoubtedly one of these recently evolved facets. Technology has enabled us to do many things with entertainment. Today’s most predominant form of media was birthed when the cathode ray tube was invented, but that was not the beginning. Entertainment media became a more popular subject with the invention of the phonograph. Because of these innovations in media technology, animated pictures became available to the masses, music became available for random listening, and the exploitation of media for the use of entertainment exploded, further, when the internet was introduced to the masses. In order for one to understand the pervasiveness of media in modern life, it is necessary to take a step back and analyze how often the media based entertainment is involved in our increasingly digital lives.
Everywhere you go; it is possible to see people enjoying the use of media for entertainments sake. Whether it is from the use of televisions, computers, cell phones, or other media related devices, this constant involvement with the media is something that is really affecting the masses. Before the invention of the iPod and the internet, families gathered around their one television set, or prior to that, sat around their house radio.
This socialization among families created a bond that will remain through the ages, because of the increased time spent together watching television. The technological advances made in recent history have evolved the distribution of media and entertainment across the globe.

As some theorists like to say, the world is now in accordance with the ‘shrinking globe’ theory (Media Nation). By this, they mean that due to technology and its rapid advances in modern society, connecting with other individuals in far places is easier than ever 
. Because of this, the internet widely considered as one of the biggest major events for media as it is defined by modern culture. Connections are able to be shared despite the geographical distances and information can now be translated easily. This innovation is one that allowed for the distribution of material to the entire world within seconds. Because of this, media became so easily accessible that it is now possible to access the internet on a device the size of your palm. Because of this ease in accessibility, the amount of information that is available to anyone with a link to the internet is virtually limitless. However, due to this massive integration of media into modern life, society has changed and has become influenced by what is portrayed through the media.
